Alan Turing's trouble with convention
Просмотров 27 тыс.16 лет назад
My favorite fragment from the documentary Breaking the Code, about the life and work of Alan Turing, the inventor of the digital computer and the one who broke the Nazi 'Enigma' code. The film is mostly about Turing breaking another code - the social conventions of his time. I love Turing's attitude about how one should simply ignore the simple minded idiots that get offended by any departure f...
is this your homework, Larry?
This kid killed it
Just call immigration at that point
The cat is neither dead or alive, it will only be either way when it is observed.
It would be a culture clash if the custom in your country is to bribe people to get better grades...........YES. LMAO
Same actor who played Mike Yanagita in "Fargo".
Zizek was so hot
Ironically fascist, unironically communist is what they are.
THIS IS IT. He gets it. My family were labeled "subversive". So i can clearly understand. Getting everyday folks to grasp it, when our institutions are created to suppress those who question, even as slight as a vote, brings into question their supremacy, is difficult. Suppressing questions is how they maintain control.
Mike Yanagita’s dad
"mere sir my sir" XD
I've thought about this line a lot, what does it mean?
@@joeyvigil Mere. Surmise. Sir.

I don't get it. @@joeyvigil
It's kind of sad to see Penrose in such a state of confusion.
Kurlture krash...
ROTSA RUCK!
The korean accents in this film are the best I’ve heard in an American film
i think you're right. I've seen movies about North Korean prison camps and they sound just like Clive..
“I already know where everything is”😹
I saw this on a TV set in a store in the east village when I was 18 years old. I went mad for it. I had to get this on DVD. I moved heaven and earth to get it. It was worth every penny.
Penrose himself is not of less calibre than Dirac
Why am I laughing? It's not funny. The cat is dead.
3:20 is this man bothering you?
If a tree falls in the forest and no one is there to hear it does it make a sound? No. Sound exists as a result of knowledge of its existence, if no one knows it has fallen. Sound cant be perceived as a result of being one of the 5 main senses.🧠🇬🇧🤯🎯📈🎐
what a load of baloney
Gem
rofl
Lmao at Larry's neighbor not being sure who he hates more.
This is how u deal with Schrödinger’s cat. His simple clarity of mind perceives the Korean he fought in the war ten years prior to be a bigger threat than the Jew. Receive w simplicity everything.
Does anyone know where I can view the full lecture?
Cultural clash indeed ))
Zizeks favourite band is actually Rammstein
な、なんだこれ..!
No it’s the black bird
I understand, if the cat is gay or not gay.
In this scene, Larry is God, and Clive is Job from the Bible
Job says the test of life was unfair, and God says you get what you get like everyone else. Accept life in stride -Rashi
What he said...
What? No sniffing? No so on and on?
Lol asian business people, right for the throat lol
Where’s this from?
From the movie, A Serious Man. It says it in the description.
Me: what money?.

So if I understand this correctly... Rather than to parody the ills of the system, Laibach is reflecting the hidden dark realities of the system in such a way, that society is otherwise not willing to recognize honestly.
Yep. Exactly that. There's an old quote attributed to Bismarck - "there are two things men ought not to see being made - sausages and laws." Laibach is showing people the process whether they like it or not, because the process affects them on a daily basis, whether they know it or not.
Masterpiece
Larry is a good man. A better man than most of us.

Not good enough for God
Very smart analysis
how can anyone listen to this man speak for over a minute? i wonder if anyone has ever tried multiple deessers on his vocal channel
Movie is such a bummer, but this sub-plot is hysterical.
His accent in English was even less pronounced before lol
He's spitting less than usual.

young zizek is kinda nerveous haha
There is a link, logical linear sequence of logical reasoning and consistent correlation between the description given here of the problems associated with "right and wrong", the namesake test of Turing, The hard problem of consciousness, the computer simulation theory of the universe, the existential threat posed by a rogue "AI" beyond the event horizon of the technological singularity, eschatology as described in canonical literature and my life-time work on the human condition presenting the only potential remedy. The irony of this max opus is its author has an appointment at a psychiatric hospital at 1:00 pm today and there is a risk of him being detained, sectioned and drugged against his will with no one to defend his right to think. In fact, in this context, thought is regarded and indeed treated as a social abomination. Anyone wishing to leap to my defence will be met with the greatest of gratitude. Should the worse fate befall me then my name is listed on my channel above and on my channel and I shall inform the reader of my status immediately upon my return home. If not, then I will be an unfortunate resident of Clock View Hospital, 2A Oakhouse Park, Walton, Liverpool, Merseyside, L9 1EP, United Kingdom. Given my consistent lack of popularity as a quasi obsessive thinker and highly prolific producer of original thought on the planet today, I may ultimately suffer the same fate as the real-life character portrayed by this finest of performers of his and subsequent generations.
Merry Christmas

If i understood it right, it's something akin to satire being indistinguishable from truly stupid things.
stupid but attractive. the point is uncovering what stupid things attract people who consider themselves civilized and sane.
